Have you ever been driving in your car with the radio turned up, joyfully singing at the top of your lungs and then suddenly someone cuts you off and in that moment you go from pure joy to a reaction of anger and frustration?
Or worse off, you love your partner, but hate when he asks you what time you’re going to be home. You might think, “Why does this bother me so much?! All he is doing is asking me when I’m going to be home and now I don’t want to come home at all!”
Why did this instant reaction happen? Did you choose your reaction in that moment? Did you think, “Let’s see, out of all the choices I could make, I know, I would like to feel angry and frustrated in this moment.” Of course not!
Then we must ask the question, “Who is in charge? Who is choosing for me?”
In Bruce Lipton’s Book “The Biology of Belief” he states…
“The character of our lives is determined not by our genes, but by our responses to the environmental signals that propel life. When our uniquely human minds get involved, we can choose to perceive the environment in different ways. Our choices are based on our beliefs.
Lipton states “I was exhilarated by the new realization that I could change the character of my life by changing my beliefs… there was a science-based path that would take me from my job as perennial “victim” to my new job as “co-creator” of my destiny. (p 17) (Lipton, B. (2005). The Biology of Belief: Unleashing the Power of Consciousness, Matter & Miracles. Santa Rosa, CA: Elite Books)
What if, what is happening, is that you are unconsciously programing your future moments of reactions based on how you have unsuccessfully processed the past and your current present moment?
The truth is, you have the ability to have no pre-programmed reaction to your environment. This means you get to choose how you would like to respond instead!
The energetic wisdom of releasing your past so that you can fully live in the present moment has been passed down throughout the ages.
Of course, to fully release your past requires time and dedication. But, I have a quick tool you can use to get started:
Next time you automatically react ask yourself, “Did I choose this automatic reaction? The answer is almost always, No.
Then inquire, “If I could choose anything here, what would I choose from my heart?” And make that choice.
Just this one simple exercise will begin reprogramming your present and future out of automatic reaction and into what you choose from your heart.
